In typical Hermès style, the new Arceau Petite Lune ciel étoilé is very harmonious in design and looks stunning. The proportions are excellent. The aesthetics are extremely appealing. That’s what Hermès does well, and that’s what Hermès does. In perfect completion! The case is made of stainless steel with a bezel set with 70 pear-set diamonds.
But even in typical Hermès style, the press release is very brief with just two photos, both of which are reproduced here. And not much information about how the dial or movement is made.
What we do know is that the dial is made of textured mother-of-pearl with blue gradient varnish. And the watch case is the Arceau Petite with a diameter of just 38 mm and the characteristic stirrup lugs. “ciel étoilé” means “starry night” in French and refers to stars visualized by the motif led by the 7 diamonds in the sky.
The movement is the H1837, which strangely has the same caliber number as the movement used in the H08. The Arceau Petite Lune ciel étoilé has a moon phase display (at 10:30), but the H08 is a pure time model with a date display at 4:30. In terms of specs, the H1937 in the Arceau Petite Lune is slightly larger at 26mm diameter compared to 23.3mm in the H08; with the same height. The power reserve is also lower at 42 hours with moon phase than 50 hours on the H08. The movement is manufactured at the Vaucher factory in Fleurier and is a product of a partnership between Hermès and Parmigiani, Vaucher’s parent company. Hermès currently owns a 25% stake in Vaucher since 2006. The movement is basically the Vaucher caliber VMF 3000.

The tape Designed by Henri d’Origny in 1978, the watch combines understatement with creativity in a round shape resting on a stirrup, a nod to the brand’s equestrian roots. The steel case with asymmetrical lugs and a gem-set crown is decorated with 70 diamonds in a cut-down setting technique that highlights the many facets of the diamonds.
This setting frames a celestial dial that captures the eye and catapults it into a star-studded night sky. In a play of light and dark effects, the structured mother-of-pearl reveals its nuances and reliefs in blue lacquer tones. The moon appears in a dazzling glow as a constellation of seven diamonds illuminates the surrounding darkness.
This starry universe is traced by slim, leaf-shaped hands and brought to life by the Hermès H1837 manufacture movement, which powers the hours and minutes as well as the moon phase functions between 10 and 11 o’clock. The sapphire crystal case back reveals the circular shape – grained, snail-shaped and satin-finished surfaces as well as the “Sprinkling of Hs” motif that adorns the bridges and the oscillating weight.
This timepiece, with its captivating deep hues, is fitted with a sapphire blue alligator leather strap, crafted in keeping with the brand’s saddlery and leather goods expertise.
