Mühle-Glashütte is celebrating two anniversaries this year.
It is 155 years since the company was founded in 1869 and it has been 30 years since the company was reformed by its current managing director Thilo Mühle, a fifth-generation descendant of the founder, who co-founded the company in 1994 his father restarted years after the reunification of Germany in 1991.
To mark the special year, Mühle is producing a series of special edition watches under the banner of Edition 1994, each bearing the number 30 on the dial and having replaced the 55 minute marker with 155.
The first thing coming onto the market today is a limited edition of 155 pieces of the 29er Big Bronze Edition 1994.
The 29er Big is available in a special, signature blue that Mühle uses as a reminder of its heritage as a nautical timepiece. On the date wheel, the 30-minute mark is highlighted in red, and the seconds display turns 55 into 155.
It features a 42.4mm case whose case, bezel, and crown are made of aluminum bronze, a further nod to its naval history as the material is used in shipbuilding due to its fresh and salt water resistance. It will develop a patina over time.
An exhibition caseback provides insight into the modified SW-200-1 movement, which features Mühle’s shockproof woodpecker neck fine regulator and a custom-made Mühle Edition 1994 rotor.
It sells on a canvas strap with a bronze pin buckle for £2,300.
