AI (Artificial Intelligence) is mentioned all over the news and in every industry these days, so much so that it seems like it is taking over in every sector.
However, how good is AI for watch/product design?
We tested it to create some Rolex designs by entering queries like “Rolex Submariner,” “Rolex Daytona,” and “Rolex Milgauss.” Above are the results after trying out several AI image generators. I’m sure there are different levels of AI image generators, and with further development they will only improve, but they are not yet a replacement for real design.
We got similar results when testing AI for writing articles. The results, whether for articles or image generation, definitely stimulate ideas and maybe even point you in the right direction, but the text had factual errors that need a human to correct, and the images are without human input not quite sophisticated enough.
Interestingly, one of the looks above features a color combination that we previously planned to suggest in an upcoming article. So AI didn’t help us create it, but it 100% helped us visualize a specific look without having to hire a designer to recreate it.
