The launch date for Snoopy MoonSwatch has passed, but the charity box sets are selling for almost £500,000

A charity auction selling 11 MoonSwatch collector cases raised CHF543,670 (£487,000) for Orbis International, an organization that works to combat preventable blindness and vision loss worldwide.

A 12-day online auction at Sotheby’s ended Saturday for the box sets, each containing all 11 Mission to Moonshine Gold watches.

Each case came into operation with an estimate of CHF 5,000 – 10,000 (£4,500 – £9,000) but sold for an average of CHF 50,000 (£44,790).

That’s over CHF 4,100 (£3,673) per MoonSwatch.

The core collection MoonSwatches retail today for just £220 and trade for around £350 on the secondary market.

All eleven box sets are linked to a global city and the home of a Swatch boutique: Sydney, Beijing, London, Paris, etc.

Each includes a gold monocle with the Omega x Swatch logo and a unique coin engraved with the three-letter aviation code of the city shown (e.g. JFK for New York).

Sotheby’s and Omega have not released final sales prices for the individual cases since the bid was won.

Omega, which donated the cases, says 100% of the auction proceeds will go to Orbis.

Through programs including a Flying Eye Hospital, Orbis has provided eye care to millions of patients while training hundreds of thousands of ophthalmologists in areas of greatest need worldwide.

Raynald Aeschlimann, president and CEO of Omega, says the auction captured the imagination of MoonSwatch fans around the world. “We are very pleased that the proceeds can now go to Orbis. We fully believe in their mission in eye care and are thrilled to have raised money and awareness for their work,” he adds.

Is there a Snoopy MoonSwatch coming?

A new moon on February 26th passed without a new MoonSwatch release, but Swatch has hinted that fans won’t have to wait long for an anticipated Snoopy release.

In lieu of another new moon premiere, Swatch released a second teaser video on Instagram that suggested a two-year anniversary event was coming.

Comments on the Instagram post immediately jumped to the obvious conclusion that a new Snoopy-themed version of MoonSwatch would be released on March 26, exactly two years after the first model’s arrival, sparking mass hysteria in Swatch stores , who ran the first edition.
